Fewer unwanted calls. Keep the calls that matter.
The first question is which phone receives the unwanted calls. A mobile app, an internet-based home phone and a traditional landline need different solutions. Choose a setup your parent can understand and adjust.
Start here: Start with the phone carrier’s existing blocking or labeling options. If those are insufficient, compare one compatible call-filtering service. Broader security subscriptions and password managers address additional problems; they are not interchangeable with a call blocker.
How we chose: These are candidates with different practical uses, selected for relevance to families helping an aging parent. We have not independently tested their reliability or ranked their performance. Manufacturer descriptions establish advertised features, not clinical benefit.

Restore normal calls when stopping a service
When stopping a call-filtering app, cancel the subscription through the original billing provider, follow the app's official instructions to remove forwarding or other phone integration, then confirm a normal incoming call and voicemail work again. Deleting the app alone may leave call routing active. If wanted calls are still missing, ask the carrier to check forwarding and blocking.

Nomorobo Max
- Purchase and first-year cost
- Nomorobo’s pricing page lists Max at $59.99/year. This is a subscription, not a one-time app purchase.
- Renewal and upkeep
- Confirm the renewal amount in the purchase screen. Deleting the app does not cancel billing; use the subscription controls for the store through which you bought it.
- Returns and cancellation
- The help center routes refund requests through Apple or Google for store purchases. We did not verify a universal refund window or entitlement for every purchase route.
- Setup to plan for
- The support page restricts Max to supported US smartphones and a named carrier list, despite broader wording on the pricing page. Check your exact carrier and OS with support, then test a legitimate unknown caller and voicemail.

Robokiller
- Purchase and first-year cost
- A single current US price was not verified from the public page. Record the trial length, first charge, billing interval and renewal before subscribing; do not treat a trial as free ongoing service.
- Renewal and upkeep
- Manage billing through the original purchase route: website, Apple or Google. Check the cancellation instructions for that route rather than assuming uninstalling ends the subscription.
- Returns and cancellation
- The published policy gives 20 days from a charge for weekly/monthly refund requests and 60 days for yearly plans, subject to exclusions. Apple handles App Store refunds; Google Play requests go to Google first. A downgrade alone does not receive a refund.
- Setup to plan for
- Confirm phone/carrier compatibility and the app’s required permissions before paying. Test calls from family and care providers, voicemail and an unfamiliar legitimate caller during any trial.

AT&T DL72219 Smart Call Blocker
- Purchase and first-year cost
- The official telephone store lists the two-handset DL72219 at $56.95 with free shipping. Add applicable tax and any telephone-service charges.
- Renewal and upkeep
- Smart Call Blocker requires caller-ID service from your telephone provider. Confirm whether that is included in the existing bill; this handset price is not a complete year of phone service.
- Returns and cancellation
- Direct website/call-center purchases can be returned or exchanged within 30 days of purchase. Request authorization first; the customer pays return shipping for non-defective items. Retailer purchases follow that retailer’s policy.
- Setup to plan for
- The model-family manual says automatic Smart Call Blocker screening applies to home-line calls. Paired cellular calls are not screened the same way, though individual numbers can be blocked. Caller ID service and a compatible home-line connection are required; the handset price is not complete telephone service or proof of outage operation. Confirm exact Bluetooth compatibility and test an ordinary wanted caller before relying on screening.

Aura
- Purchase and first-year cost
- The October 13 public Family page displayed $32/month billed annually ($384/year) or $50 monthly ($600 over twelve months), with a 14-day trial. The separate October 6 a-save offer could not be reconfirmed and is not the current card destination. Offers can vary; no completed quote is established. Confirm the intended destination and full quoted charges.
- Renewal and upkeep
- The reviewed Family plan includes five adults and unlimited children, with different benefits for child members. Confirm the renewal price, supported phones and included call protection before paying; we did not verify a guaranteed separate second-year rate. Message Protection is iOS only.
- Returns and cancellation
- The 60-day guarantee applies to eligible initial annual website/customer-support purchases; monthly and third-party billing do not qualify, and subsequent annual renewals do not have the same full-refund guarantee. For trial signups, the clock starts at trial signup. Cancellation and requesting a refund are separate. Confirm your purchase route and current written conditions.
- Setup to plan for
- Each adult should understand the information and account access involved. Full features depend on identity verification and credit eligibility. This broader service may duplicate protections already owned; buy it only if those additional features are wanted.

Norton 360 Deluxe
- Purchase and first-year cost
- The US affiliate landing page reviewed October 6 lists Norton 360 Deluxe at $49.99 for the first year for five devices. Its advertised renewal is $124.99/year: $75 more than the initial offer, before applicable taxes. Offers differ by channel; confirm the current checkout total.
- Renewal and upkeep
- Auto-renewal applies unless canceled. Norton says annual renewal can be billed up to 35 days before renewal; check the advance notice and cancel before billing if you do not want it.
- Returns and cancellation
- The published subscription details provide a full-refund window of 60 days from payment for annual plans; monthly plans have different terms. Use Norton’s cancellation/refund process, and check other purchase channels separately.
- Setup to plan for
- Install on supported devices and check feature availability by operating system. A five-device allowance does not mean identical tools on every device. It is a broader security suite, not a replacement for a family’s call-verification routine.

1Password Families
- Purchase and first-year cost
- The direct-site offer shows $4.49/month paid annually for new customers’ first year: $53.88 calculated. The regular listed rate is $5.99/month paid annually: $71.88 calculated. The promotion excludes third-party app stores.
- Renewal and upkeep
- Check the invoice and renewal terms. Extra family members beyond the included allowance can cost more; the billing policy describes five included members. A 14-day trial is offered.
- Returns and cancellation
- The self-managed subscription policy does not refund past charges or remaining paid time after cancellation. Cancel during the trial to avoid a charge. Store-billed subscriptions use Apple or Google management.
- Setup to plan for
- Agree who will be a family organizer and establish a recovery plan before moving important passwords. This addresses account security, not unwanted calls; start with a few accounts your parent chooses.

Try the included option first
The FTC recommends checking call-blocking and labeling options for the type of phone in use. Some are free and others charge. Its guidance also warns that blocking can stop wanted calls. The Do Not Call Registry can reduce legitimate sales calls, but scammers do not obey it.
Do a legitimate-call check
Make a short list together: family, doctor, pharmacy, home-care agency and transport. Add known numbers to contacts where appropriate. Ask providers whether outgoing calls use different numbers. After setup, test an unfamiliar legitimate number with a willing helper and check voicemail and screening notifications. Choose the least restrictive setting that meets the need.
Compare one year, including the renewal
For an app, record the trial end date, first charge, annual or monthly billing, renewal price and cancellation route. For a home phone, include the hardware and any caller-ID service cost. For a security bundle, check whether another existing subscription already covers the same job. We have not verified a comparable checkout quote for each option, so no cheapest-product claim is made here.
Agree on a pause-and-call-back routine
Caller ID can be spoofed. If a caller demands money, account information or urgent action, end the call and verify through a number you already trust. Make it easy for your parent to ask for a second opinion without embarrassment. No product on this page guarantees that a scam will be caught.
Keep your parent in control
Review app permissions and account access together. Explain what is filtered, where blocked calls appear and how to turn the service off. Do not stack several filtering apps without checking compatibility. A setup that repeatedly hides important calls is a reason to adjust or replace it.
One useful next step
Print the product trial checklist to record what works during the return period.
Identify the phone and carrier, check the included protection, then trial one suitable option. Keep it only if unwanted calls decrease without making important calls harder to receive.
